Betty Matthews Thach

   Betty Ann Matthews Thach, 83, of 213 Woodland Circle, Hertford, NC, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018, in her home.

     Mrs. Thach was born in Perquimans County on May 27, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Julian and Mabel Layden Matthews. A homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was a member of Hertford United Methodist Church and the Minnie Wilson Circle.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Benjamin "Ben" Thach, Jr.; a son-in-law, Lee Stallings; a sister-in-law, Lib McCloskey; and brothers-in-law, Wayne Dail, Harlan Hurdle, and Frank McCloskey.

   Surviving are three daughters, Jo Winslow and Debbie Stallings, both of Hertford, and Donna Stallings and husband, Billy, of Elizabeth City; a son, Richard B. Thach, III of Hertford; two sisters, Mabel Stallings and husband, Bobby, and Faye Dail, all of Winfall; a sister-in-law, Brenda Hurdle of Hertford; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Loftis (James), Carson Stallings (Kacey), Tyler Stallings (Clarisa), Meghan Stallings, Morghan Stallings, Tanner Thach, Maddux Thach, and Kolby Walker; and six great-grandchildren, Madison and Spencer Loftis, Brody, Jackson, and Harper Stallings, and Benson Stallings.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by the Rev. Bryan Sexton. A private burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service, and all other times at the residence.
