Betty Ruth Smith Miller

   Betty Ruth Smith Miller, 76, of 543 Swamp Road, Hertford, NC, died on Thursday, April 13, 2023. Godspeed and we know she’ll be there to greet us.

   A lifelong resident of Perquimans County, she was born on November 15, 1946, and was the daughter of the late Benjamin E. and Maxine Griffin Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bryan Merritt “Dick” Miller, Jr.; and by a grandson, Christopher Jordan Byrum.

   Betty was a retired office manager with Atlantic Anesthesia. She loved her family, her church family, and her pets. She was also especially fond of her rehabilitation roommate, Miss Mary Saunders and her family.

   Surviving are three children, Shannon Byrum (Chris), Bryan M. Miller, III (Dawn), and Kimberly M. Russell and family; two grandchildren, Jacob and Jordan Byrum; her sister, Brenda Terranova Umphlett Long (Irvin); her brother-in-law, Jarvis H. Miller; and four nephews.

   A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 16^th, at 3:00 p.m. in Oak Grove United Methodist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Reverend Reggie Ponder. Friends may visit with the family on the church lawn immediately following the service.

   The family asks that flowers be omitted and contributions in her memory be made to the Tri-County Animal Shelter & Adoption Center, 138 Icaria Road, Tyner, NC 27980, or to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 775 Chapanoke Road, Hertford, NC 27944.
