Betty Jarman Cox, 80, of 203 Terry Avenue, Edenton, NC, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019, in Three Rivers Health & Rehabilitation Center, Windsor.
Mrs. Cox was born in Onslow County on December 10, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Willie Thomas and Pearl Ball Jarman. Employed as an Administrative Secretary with the North Carolina Co-Operative Extension Service, she had retired after more than 30 years of service. She had a love for flowers and gardening, especially her roses. A faithful member of Edenton Baptist Church, she was a member of its Adult Choir, had worked in the W.M.U., was a member and teacher of the Sunshine Bible Class. She was a great cook and shared her loved for cooking by serving for the church's Wednesday Night Meals, and at both Camp Cale Retreat and with the Baptist on Missions Disaster Aid Group. She especially loved spending time with and spoiling her three grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Lottie Rublein, Martha Jackson, and Rebecca Brown; and by a brother, Thomas Jarman.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, G. Samuel Cox; three sons and their wives, Graham and Samantha Cox of Newnan, GA, John and Susan Cox, and Andrew and Lisa Cox, all of Holly Springs; three sisters, Arline Huffman and Barbara Humphrey (Jack), both of Richlands, and Carolyn McGowan of Jacksonville; two brothers, W.C. Jarman (Trixie) and Elwood Jarman (Peggy), both of Jacksonville; and three granddaughters, Emily, Rachel, and Chloe Cox.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 17 at 4 p.m. in Edenton Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. David Brooks. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence.
