Minnie Bell Elliott departed this earthly life and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, February 21, 2020, at the age of 94. She had been a resident of Brandermill Woods Health Care Center in Midlothian, Virginia, for the past 4 years.
Bell was born on May 12, 1925, the youngest of six children born to the late Linda Benton and Joseph Proctor Elliott on the family farm in Chapanoke, NC. She was a devoted homemaker and a lifelong member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. Her love for the land and the Chapanoke community was demonstrated in her faithful stewardship of the beloved farmplace she called “home”. Bell cared for her parents as long as they lived and personally managed the family farm until she was 90 when injuries from a fall forced her to embrace a change in lifestyle.
Besides her parents, Bell was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry Matthew Elliott, John Ambrose Elliott, and L.B. “Ranzy” Elliott; two sisters, Sarah Elliott Hollowell and Lessie Elliott White. She was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, and aunt to many nieces and nephews who will sorely miss her. After her move to Virginia, Bell was uplifted by the bounty of cards, phone calls, and prayers from her Perquimans County loved ones. Her family is grateful for all these acts of love and kindness.
A service to celebrate Bell’s life will be held at the graveside on Tuesday, February 25, at 3:00 p.m. in West Lawn Memorial Park, 1909 W. Main St., Elizabeth City, NC, with the Reverend David E. Hollowell and Reverend Reggie Ponder, Jr. presiding. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation in the cemetery immediately following the service. Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements. Those who wish to view Bell may do so at the funeral home until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice or to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 775 Chapanoke Road, Hertford, NC 27944.
