Barbara Moore Sawyer

 Barbara Ann Moore Sawyer, 86, of Hertford, NC, passed away Friday, September 13, 2024 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

 Mrs. Sawyer was born in Redwood, Virginia on November 27, 1937 and was the daughter of the late John Raymond Moore and Hilda Harrison Sawyer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Douglas “Bobby D.” Sawyer, Sr., daughters, Sheryl Naylor and Karen Sawyer, a son, David Sawyer, a brother, Delbert Harrison, and by a sister, Nell Chapman.

 In earlier years she had been employed as a dental assistant, but later found her calling as a babysitter for many of the children in her community. A member of Fountain of Life Church, among her many enjoyments included her love of crocheting, puzzles, and diamond art.

 Surviving are her two daughters, Ronda Forbes (husband, Rusty) and Connie White (husband, Roscoe), both of Hertford; two sons, Bobby Sawyer (wife, Charlie) of St. Louis, MO and Johnny Sawyer (wife, Tammy) of Elizabeth City; son-in-law, Jimmy Naylor of Hertford; a sister, Bertha Gallop of Elizabeth City; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

 Funeral services will be held Friday, September 20, at 3:00 p.m. in Fountain of Life Church and will be conducted by Pastor Hans Hess. A private burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family Thursday, September 19, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and other times at Ronda and Rusty’s home, 142 Tuscarora Trail, Hertford.
