Barbara Ogle Burgess

  Barbara Lou Ogle Burgess, 76, of 971 Scott Road, Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Monday, July 15, 2024 in her home where she was being cared for by family.

 Mrs. Burgess was born in Sevierville, TN on April 8, 1948, and was the daughter of the late Archie Nelson and Hattie King Ogle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Huskey Lilly, Helen Ruth Sawyer, and Polly Christine Farr, brothers, Ralph, Frank, James Elmer, J.C., Ted, Eugene, and Ronnie Ogle, and by half siblings, Bertha Fannie, Velva, Estelle, Verless, Melvan, and Wilford.

 A loving wife, mother and grandmother, for many years she owned and operated Burgess Beauty Shop. Among her many enjoyments included her love of gardening, working in her flower beds, playing cards, cooking, and more recently quilting.

 Surviving is her husband of nearly 61 years, David Lee Burgess; her daughter, Teresa B. Speight (Joseph) of Kitty Hawk; a brother, Donnie Ogle of Sevierville; three grandchildren, Branden Burgess (Leah Dredge) of Star, ID, Coleman “Cole” Speight, and Alexandra “Ali” Speight (Wyatt Casper, and their son, Waylon Ridge Casper), all of Kitty Hawk; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

 Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by Pastor Jay Rivenbark. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home the hour prior to the services on Thursday and all other times at the residence.
