Barbara Tyson Brabble, of 108 River Road, Hertford, NC passed away at the age of 78 years old on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
Born in Washington County on April 2, 1946, Barbara was the daughter of the late Fred and Wilma Davenport Tyson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Henry W. Brabble, Jr., a sister, Ann Boyce and by five brothers, Robert (infant), Buddy, Owen, Ervin and Bill Tyson.
Surviving is her brother, Barry Tyson, two sons, Henry Brabble, III and Mark Brabble, three stepchildren, Dorothy Parrish (Jerry), Donna Stearns and David Brabble, nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Barbara was an active member of Yeopim Baptist Church and enjoyed attending services and the social events within her congregational community. Her church family provided both comfort and pleasure for her. She remained resolute in and with her faith until her passing.
Barbara was known and loved for her abounding enthusiasm and her zestful admiration for others, which made her easy to receive comfort from and to provide comfort for. She enjoyed being with her family whether those family members were immediate or extended. Other enjoyments included listening to music and watching movies, which influenced both of her children a great deal regarding these two entities, and she also enjoyed cooking, decorating and horticulture, which was her primary hobby. She took great pleasure nurturing plants be it indoors or outdoors.
Barbara worked with the United States Postal Service for almost 30 years rising through the ranks by starting as a custodian and eventually becoming a postmaster. Having worked in several postal offices in the Eastern North Carolina area, she retired in May of 2012. She took great pleasure and pride in her work and in those whom she worked with.
In her retirement she and her husband traveled stateside and abroad, and together took that time to enjoy the fruits of their labor. And then they would journey back to their roots with a simple fishing excursion for a few hours.
A memorial service for Barbara will be held Tuesday, October 1, at 3:00 p.m. in Yeopim Baptist Church, 1201 Yeopim Road, Edenton and will be conducted by Pastor Karl Head. Friends may visit with the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service on Tuesday and other times at the residence.
In memory of Barbara, contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
