Ronald Butt, Sr.

   Arthur Ronald Butt, Sr., 91, of Bennett’s Pasture Road, Suffolk, VA, died Saturday, August 26, 2023 in Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA.

   Mr. Butt was born in Perquimans County, NC on February 22, 1932 and was the only son born to the late Chester Arthur and Nina Onley Butt. He and his five sisters were raised on the family farm in the New Hope community. In addition to parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy O’Neal, Jean Lane, and Norma Butt.

   A retired general foreman from Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he worked for over 35 years, he later had a successful career in real estate and was employed with Century 21. A member of Centenary United Methodist Church and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #898, he had proudly served his country overseas as a Foreign Artillery Observer with US Army during the Korean War.

   Surviving is his wife, Mabel Ruth Wilson Butt who he married in 1954, and their children, Reneé DuBois of Suffolk and Ronnie Butt (wife, Stacy) of Brownstown, MI. Also surviving are two sisters, Faye Eure of Hertford and Doris Carpenter of Washington, DC; two grandchildren, Christine Price (husband, Gregory) and Zachary DuBois; a great-grandson, Colby Price; and many nieces, nephews, and extended members of both Butt and Wilson families.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 31st, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton. The burial will be in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service or other times at the home of Herbert and Mary Wilson, 1709 Virginia Road, Edenton.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family for the continued long-term care of his wife of 69 years.
