Annie Spruill Clifton

   Annie Leola Spruill Ayers Clifton, 77, of the Pea Ridge community of Roper, NC, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   Mrs. Clifton was born in Bertie County on April 20, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Thomas Armstrong Spruill and Mattie Pierce Spruill. A homemaker, she was a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Ernest Ayers and Johnny Clifton, and by brothers, Elmer, J.D., Tommy Ray, and Chester.

   Surviving are her daughter, Glory Ann White and husband, Andy, of Belvidere; a son, Wayne Spivey and wife, Lauri, of Manteo; two sisters, Gloria Tunstall of Roper and Alice Lewis of Windsor; four grandchildren, Kristy Melton, Ashley Bradley, Cody White, and Justin Spivey, and four great-grandchildren, Hailey, Brent, Jayden, and Juliana.

   A graveside service will be held Monday, January 11, at 11:00 a.m. in Piney Grove FWB Church Cemetery, 1633 Pea Ridge Road, Roper, and will be conducted by Pastor Charlie Reber. Due to the restrictions and precautions associated with the Covid-19 Pandemic, no formal visitation is being held. However, friends are invited to visit with the family at the gravesite immediately following the service. Masks and social distancing measures are encouraged.

   Memorial contributions may be made either to the Epilepsy Foundation, 8301 Professional Place, Landover, MD 20785-2353 or to the family to help with medical and other related expenses, in care of Kristy Melton, 653 Gliden Road, Belvidere, NC 27919.
