Annette Lee Stokes, 85, of 1039 Pine Ridge Road, passed away Monday, March 3, 2025, in her home where she was being cared for by family.
Ms. Stokes was born in Bertie County on August 30, 1939, and was the daughter of the late Vernon Haste Lee and Ellen Earle Speller Lee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Merrell Stokes, Jr., a brother, Ernest Eugene “Bubba” Lee.
Known as the “Pizza Lady,” she retired as a Manager with Pizza Hut having been employed for 27 years between the Edenton and Plymouth locations. She attended Capehart’s Baptist Church.
Surviving is her longtime companion, Bill Wells; her son, James T. “Jamie” Stokes (fiancee, Jackie Beecham, and her daughter, Zoe) of Merry Hill; a brother, Vernon Franklin “Frankie” Lee (wife, Janie, deceased) of Merry Hill; four nieces, Ellen, Janet, Vickie and Linda; two nephews, Vernon and Mike; and many great-nieces and nephews.. Also surviving is Bill’s daughter, Jennica Wells, and her son, Sawyer.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Capehart’s Baptist Church and will be conducted by Pastor Ben Bunch. Friends may visit with the family on the church grounds immediately following the service on Sunday, and other times at her son Jamie's home, 104 Farless Road, Merry Hill, NC 27957.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
