Anne Marie Gould O'Hara, 87, of 132 Pine Street, Hertford, NC, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton.
Mrs. O'Hara was born in Brookline, MA on January 24, 1934, and was the daughter of the late John F. and Anne Veronica McGinn Gould. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, John F. Gould, Jr. and Thomas Gould.
A retired educator, for many years she was a teacher at Great Bridge Middle School in Chesapeake, VA. A veteran, she had served in the US Air Force and as a civilian was an Eighth Air Force Volunteer of the Year. A lifetime member of the American Legion, she had served both on the Juvenile Court Commission in Chesapeake and as a patient advocate at Chesapeake General Hospital. An avid sports fan, she loved everything Boston and was an ardent supporter of all her favorite teams including the Boston Red Socks, Celtics, Bruins, and New England Patriots. Always having a love of sports, she particularly enjoyed playing both softball and basketball, and competing in skeet shooting.
Surviving is her husband of 65 years, Robert Joseph O'Hara; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth O'Hara Case (husband, Robert, Jr.) of New Bern; a son, Robert Joseph O'Hara, Jr. (wife, Lisa) of Hertford; two sisters, Mary Lynn Boyle of Weymouth, MA and Lillian Holzman of Hingham, MA; a brother, Charles Gould of Hull, MA; three grandchildren, Krystal Garcia (husband, Andy), Sean O'Hara (wife, Kelly), and Matthew Case; and two great-grandchildren, Trinity and Aubrey Moore.
A private celebration of life will be held by the family.
