Almeda Fay Rodgers Ison, 76, of Merry Hill, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.
Born in Raleigh County, WV on May 25, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Charlotte Marie Evans Rodgers. For many years she had owned and operated The Taylor's Store in Merry Hill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Jerome Ison; two sons, Edward Kenneth Adkins and infant son David Wayne Adkins; and by two sisters, Pat Jones and Delores Arthur.
Surviving are her daughter, Carla Youngs (husband, Joshua) of Tyner; a son, Ronald Adkins (wife, Dorinda) of Elizabeth City; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Adkins of Tyner; two sisters, Rita Azer of Florida and Loretta Holcomb of West Virginia; five grandchildren, Chris and Nicholas Adkins, Kelsey Lane, Samantha Turner, and Lorenzo Chavez; seven great-grandchildren, Austin, Sam, Randy, Ben, Ren, Camden, and Amari; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 26, at 2:00 p.m. in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Elizabeth City. With the restrictions and precautions associated with the Covid-19 Pandemic, no formal visitation is being held, however friends may visit the family at the gravesite immediately following the service. Masks and social distancing measures should be followed.
