Alice Ammons Winslow

   Alice Ann Ammons Winslow, 73, of 128 Cypress Road, Merry Hill, NC, died Saturday, February 22, 2020, in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton.

   Mrs. Winslow was born in Atlanta, GA on March 11, 1946, and was the daughter of the late Clarence Cicero Ammons and Lucille McCorkle Ammons. She loved the Chowan River and to travel, enjoying touring extensively throughout Europe, South America, and Asia. She had worked as a Teacher’s Assistant in the Chowan County School System, furthered her education and began teaching in Perquimans County. Later she was employed at Weyerhaeuser Company as IT Department Manager at the Plymouth facility. In 2000, she co-founded and was primary owner of a successful IT Services company, The SoundSide Group, located in Plymouth.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Pettus.

   Surviving are her husband of nearly 54 years, J. Calvin Winslow, Jr.; two daughters, Maria Winslow of Rocky Mount and Bethany Winslow Hoomani and husband, Chris, of Raleigh; and three grandchildren, Zoe Czeiszperger Winslow, Jaxson Winslow Smith, and Tucker Jameson Smith. Also surviving is her nephew, Jerry Pettus, Jr. of South Carolina.

   A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by longtime family friend, the Rev. Bernie Hurdle. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the service, or other times at the residence.
