She entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior peacefully, knowing that her earthly days were ending and her eternity in heaven was awaiting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Morris Anson Bowers, a sister, Sudie Mae Pfeifer (Johnnie, deceased), and by brothers, Paul Lamar Shattuck, Jr. (Jeannie, deceased) and James Christoval Shattuck.

Many in the community will remember her as the store manager at the ETNA Station in Elizabeth City where she had been employed for many years. A faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church, she was passionate about her service in its WMU. She witnessed to everyone who entered her hospital room until her very last hour. She was passionate about sharing the power of a relationship with Christ. Her work for the Lord was best displayed by her desire to give to others in their time of need.

Surviving are her two daughters, Jacquelyn Ann Hobbs Eason (Monkie) of Elizabeth City and Rebecca Toy White Corprew (Alan) of Hertford; a son, William Anson “Billy” Hobbs (Shawn) of York, NE; a sister, Barbara Shattuck Hobbs (Bill) of Pinetops; 13 grandchildren, Douglas Oeser (Jessica), Colby Hobbs, Kelsey Danhauer (Matt), Shelby Rae Sanders (Mitchell), Kirby Hobbs (KyRae), Katelyn Moody (Tyler), Dean Corprew (Kristy), Fantasia Saunders (Bubba), Austin Melton, Gabriel Hobbs (Vicki), Seth Hobbs, Isaac Melton (Kaleigh), and Dana Hobbs; 13 great-grandchildren, David, Marley, Skylar, Jack, Jamison, Max, Kaiden, Lily, Novella, Korie, Teddy, Jensyn, and Atticus. She also had several nieces and nephews very dear to her. She looked forward to and enjoyed trips to her sister's home in Pinetops to visit with them.

Alice was lovingly cared for by many dear friends, including Bill & Clara Weaver, Jeremie Blake (now known as “the favorite”), RS & Jeanette Chappell, Tommy & Lynn Stokely, and several other close friends from Bethel Baptist Church. Her daughter, Rebecca Toy, will forever be grateful for the love shown to her mother during the last several years.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Bethel Baptist Church, and will be conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Greg Owenby. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and other times at Rebecca Toy and Alan’s home, 111 Yeopim Drive, Herford.
