Aletta May Fennelly Sarisky, 95, formerly of Chesapeake, VA, and more recently of Hertford, NC, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023 in The Landings of Albemarle.
Mrs. Sarisky was born in Essex County, NJ on July 26, 1927 and was the daughter of the late John Aloysius Fennelly and Elsie May Wyckoff Fennelly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Penny Aletta Koppen, a sister, Geraldine Ockrymiek, and by a brother, William Fennelly.
Following WW II, and after High School graduation, Aletta’s sense of adventure sent her to California to work with Prudential Insurance. After a few years out on the west coast, she returned to the east coast, married, and quickly had three daughters. For many years she enjoyed membership in the Dutch Reformed Church in Metuchen, NJ. While living in Metuchen she taught Sunday school, lead a girl scout troop, became a single mother and worked at the Cascade Pool Company. Upon remarrying and retiring she moved to Chesapeake, VA and in 1989, Aletta was a founding member of the Newcomers Club in which she remained very active for over thirty years. Aletta loved to travel and fondly remembered a trip to the European Capitals in 1994. She also loved to cruise in the Caribbean.
Surviving is her husband of over 50 years, John Bernard Sarisky; two daughters, Dianne K. Pierson (husband, Michael) of Hertford and Debra L. Fiedler (husband, Martin) of Mays Landing, NJ; six grandchildren, Jason (Lissa), Jonathan, Erin (Cory), Joseph (Donna), Justin (Suzanne), and Rebecca (Michael); four great-grandchildren, Reid, Riley, Isla, and Dylan, along with a soon to be born great-granddaughter, Frankie; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A private service is being planned by the family.
