Ada Louise Willey Carroll, 100 of Raleigh, NC, and a former longtime resident of Gates, died Saturday, September 23, 2023 at her home.
Ada was born in Gates County on March 18, 1923 and was the only daughter born to the late Dan Arthur and Rosa Whedbee Willey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jenkins Carroll; and by her six brothers, Joshua Whedbee (wife, Helen), Dan Arthur (wife, Rebecca), Harry Nowell (wife, Nell), Edward Vernon (wife, Evelyn), John Fletcher (wife, Gretchen), and Frank Thomas Willey.
A homemaker and mother, Ada also worked as a dietician at Norfolk General Hospital and a primary school science teacher. She received her college degree after attending Chowan College in Murfreesboro and East Carolina Teachers College (now ECU) in Greenville. She was a longtime and faithful member of Kittrell’s United Methodist Church in Gates where she served her church and her Lord in many capacities.
Surviving are her children, Robert E. “Bob” Carroll (wife, Rosalind) of Raleigh, Stephen W. “Steve” Carroll of Gates, Rebecca Carroll, and Laura Carroll Allen (husband, Scott) of High Point; three grandchildren, Louis Feuillatte, and Wistar and Emily Allen; her sister-in-law Mary Langston Willey of Gaston; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Ada’s caregivers Ade Nwuso, Susan Adams, Owen Little and Mary Shibambo for their loving care of Ada, making it possible for her to live the final two years of her life in her home.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 14th, at 1:00 p.m. in Kittrell’s United Methodist Church. The burial will follow in the Willey Family Cemetery at the homeplace.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Kittrell’s U.M.C., in care of Faye Freeman, P.O. Box 51, Gates, NC 27937.
