Helen Chaney Brown Jordan 81 of 37 Zion Road Hobbsville NC died Saturday May 5 2012 in Vidant Chowan Hospital Edenton. Mrs. Jordan was born in Gates County and was the daughter of the late William Emmett Sr. and Helen Chaney Brown. A graduate of Hobbsville High School she attended both Chowan College in Murfreesboro and East Carolina Teachers College in Greenville. One of the first Head Start teachers in Gates County she later retired from the Co-Operative Extension Service. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and served on both the local and district levels of the United Methodist Women was a member of the former Merchants Millpond State Park Board was active in the Gates County Democratic Party and was a member (1981-1998) and past chairman of the Gates County Board of Education. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Kermit E. Jordan and by her brother W.E. Bill Brown Jr. Surviving are her daughters Sherrol Jordan of Hobbsville and Denise Paruscio and husband Thomas of Greensboro; a sister Carol Brown Wyatt and husband Jim of Henderson; and two grandchildren Jordan T. Paruscio and wife Jennifer of Winston-Salem and Ashley M. Paruscio of Durham. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tracy Clayton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Sunday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home 304 Main Street Gatesville and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Association the American Diabetes Foundation or to Zion United Methodist Church.
