James Peter Smith Jr.

James Peter Smith Jr. 81 of 3346 Rocky Hock Road Edenton NC died Friday April 20 2012 in Vidant Chowan Hospital Edenton. Mr. Smith was born in Brooklyn NY and was the son of the late James P. Sr. and Margaret Shelters Smith. A retired tug boat captain with over 30 years of service he later worked with the Central Islip School System for 10 years. An Army veteran of the Korean War he was a member of the Edward G. Bond Post 40 of the American Legion. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death on May 1 2008 by his wife Anne Marie DeVoy Smith by a son Michael W. Smith and sisters Lorraine and Daisy. Surviving are a daughters Anne Marie Hansen (Kurt) of Edenton; a son James B. Smith (Denise) of Bayport NY; a brother Peter Smith of Brooklyn NY; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
