Woodrow Wilson Sumerlin 86 of 120 Carters Court Coinjock NC died Sunday May 20 2012 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Mr. Sumerlin was born in Edgecombe County and was the son of the late George Allen Sr. and Alice May Savage Sumerlin. Retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard he was a veteran of the US Navy having served as a Seabee during World War II. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters Alma Culver Annie Lee Canoles and Frances Driver; and two brothers George Jr. and William Sumerlin. Surviving are his wife of 63 years Maud Sybil Simmons Sumerlin; four daughters Carol Moore of San Antonio TX Linda Long and husband Tony of Currituck Kay Davey and husband Kevin of Elizabeth City and Beth O'Briant and husband Paul of Moyock; a sister Celeta Swanson of Kenner LA; a brother Dodsworth Sumerlin of Nashville NC; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. At his request no services will be held. Friends may join the family at the residence.
