Bill Roger Phillips Sr.

Bill Roger Phillips Sr. 79 of 411 NC Hwy 37 N. died Friday March 2 2012 in Down East Health & Rehabilitation Gatesville. Mr. Phillips was born in Iowa City Iowa. A retired truck driver he was a member of Gatesville Baptist Church and had served in the US Navy where he was a P.O.W. during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents Verne R. Phillips and Helen McClain Land and by a sister Virginia Scott. Surviving are his wife of 59 years Jacklyn Marshall Phillips; a daughter Leona C. Clinton and husband Robert of Halifax VA; two sons Bill R. Phillips Jr. and wife Kay and Bruce Phillips all of Chesapeake; two sisters Barbara Bagenstos and Margo Land both of Billings MT; a brother Bruce Phillips of Roberts MT; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Gatesville Baptist Church by the Rev. Gene Asbill. Friends may join the family in the church social hall following services.
