Calvin Barclift Banks 87 of 2155 New Hope Road died Monday March 12 2012 in his home. Mr. Banks was born in Perquimans County and was the son of the late Elmer Gaston and Mabel Saunders Banks. A veteran of the US Navy after 20 years of service he retired as a Chief Petty Officer having served during World War II and the Korean War. Later he was employed and retired after 15 years as a mechanic in the Aircraft Repair and Supply Center at the U.S. Coast Guard Base in Elizabeth City. He enjoyed memberships in Berea Church of Christ Fleet Reserve #293 and the Coast Guard Credit Union. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Kathleen Nixon Banks; a brother Eugene Gaston Banks; and a grandson Daniel Joshua Calderwood. Surviving are his three daughters Patricia Ann Calderwood and husband Daniel of Scotland CT Marjorie Kathleen Banks of Raleigh and Susan Rebecca Banks of Clayton; a sister Louise Barber and husband Edward of Hertford; a nephew Eugene Gaston Banks Jr. of Elizabeth City; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his caregiver Anna Smith. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Berea Church of Christ by Ministers Harold Rutledge and Jerry Norris. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
