D. Scott Maxwell, Jr.

Derwood Scott "Scotty" Maxwell, Jr., 58, of Hertford, died Friday May 25, 2012 in Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation, Hertford. Scotty was born in Norfolk, VA on August 7, 1953 to D. Scott, Sr. and Ramona Goodwin "Monie" Maxwell of Hertford. Educated in the Norfolk Public Schools, he wrestled at Norview High School until he was transferred his senior year to Lake Taylor High School where he starred for the Titans and then graduated from in 1971. He then studied and became a farrier (blacksmith) and his profession soon moved him to the Roanoke Valley area for the next 20 years, but then moved to Hertford to be near to his parents and is where he had lived for the last 20 years. During his time in Hertford he shared his life with Susan Damron and her sons, Brian and Brett, and they became a close family. The last two years of his life were spent in the Brian Center in Hertford where he had suffered from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Scotty was a strong, loving and thoughtful man and was a dynamic part in the lives of his family. A good man, he will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
