Calvin Reese Griffith, 72, of 4508 Gilberts Beach Road, Tyner, NC, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 in his home. Mr. Griffith was born in Pulaski, VA on May 31, 1939 to Treva Rorrer Griffith of Archdale, NC and the late Ernest Buck Griffith. Living in Hampton, VA most of his life, he followed in his father's footsteps and was a shop foreman in the wood working trade having been employed with Weaver Brothers Lumber Company in Newport News, VA for 26 years and then with Waterfront Lumber Company for 15 years before retiring and moving to Tyner in 2000. An avid fisherman, he was also affectionately known by his family as the "Corn Hole Champion." In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Harshbarger. Surviving along with his mother are his wife of 52 years, Mary Barrett Griffith; a daughter, Christine G. Tribble and husband David and their son Jacob Griffith Tribble of Portsmouth, VA; a son, David Nick Griffith and wife Ginger and their daughters, Brittany Griffith and fiancé Rory Brill, all of Hampton, VA and Dannelle Nicole Griffith and fiancé Jordon Penrod and their daughter, Karrington Penrod of Newport News, VA; two sisters, Karen Lane and husband Steve of Trinity, NC and Sharon Brusnahan and husband Mike of Marietta, GA; a sister-in-law, Ginny Gray and husband Buddy of Carrollton, VA; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 27, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. in Ballard's Bridge Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Parr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church for visitation, following services, or all other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to Ballard's Bridge Baptist Church, 3025 Virginia Road, Tyner, NC 27980 or to any chapter of the American Cancer Society.
