Gladys Faye Barnes West

Gladys Faye Barnes West, 77, of 50-5 Mallory Buck Road, Gates, NC, died Monday, May 28, 2012 in Down East Health & Rehabilitation Center, Gatesville. Mrs. West was born in Washington County, NC and was the daughter of the late Henry George and Mary Elizabeth Phelps Barnes. A retired foreman from Tea Pack, Inc. in Virginia Beach, VA, she was a member of White Oak Free Will Baptist Pentecostal Church in Norfolk, VA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Graham West, Sr., and her daughter-in-law, Joyce Halsey West. Surviving are her two sons, Percy G. West, Jr. and Phillip West, both of Gates; two sisters, Ardie Mae Scarper and Naomi Rae Spry; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, NC by the Rev. Cody Brinkley. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6320 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
