P.D. Greene, Jr.

Percival Delmar "P.D." Greene, Jr., 70, of 61 Gates Bank Road, Gates, NC, died Monday, June 4, 2012 in his home. Mr. Greene was born in Gates County and was the son of the late Percival D., Sr. and Regina Bunch Greene. A retired welding supervisor from Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Corp., he had worked there for over 38 years. A member of Kittrell's United Methodist Church, he also enjoyed membership in the Gates Ruritan Club and the Gates Volunteer Fire Department and was an Army veteran. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Greene. Surviving are his wife of nearly 48 years, Mary Simpson Greene; two daughters, Janet G. Askew and husband John of Eure and Anita G. Johnson and husband Rob of Waterford, VA; a son, Percy D. Greene, III and wife Karen of Eure; a sister, Marita Earley; and a brother, Orson Greene and wife Patty, all of Gates; and nine grandchildren, Ashley, Leeza, and Sarah Askew, Adam and LeAnne Greene, and Zachary, Lauren, Claire, and Katherine Johnson. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, by the Revs. Mike Askew and Joseph Buck. Burial will be held at a later time in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk, VA. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service, or all other times at the residence.
