Barbara Ann Ainsley Smith

Barbara Ann Ainsley Smith, 71, of 315 Taylor Store Road, Merry Hill, NC, died Saturday, June 9, 2012 in Greenville, NC. Mrs. Smith was born in Tyrrell County and was the daughter of the late Gillard and Sallie Edwards Ainsley. A devoted wife of 50 years to the late Roy Odell Smith who preceded her in death in 2008, she was a mother, grandmother, homemaker and Insurance Agent. She attended Capehart's Baptist Church in Merry Hill. She enjoyed sewing and painting. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Margie Etheridge and Audrey Cahoon, and by a brother, Roger Ainsley. Surviving are her two daughters, Fran Byrum and husband Glenn of Merry Hill, Pam Cummings and husband Warren of Washington; a son, Ira Leroy Smith and Marie of Pinetown; six grandchildren, Courtney Smith, Andrew Byrum, Joey Smith, Alyssa Byrum, Tommy Smith, and Bryce Cummings; and two great-grandchildren, Aiden Smith Curlings and Justice Roy Smith-McKinney. Also surviving are sisters, Ruth Holadia of Virginia Beach, Juanita Johnson of Elizabeth City, Dora Sfetsos of Williamston, and Rose Baker of Edenton; and a brother, Larry Ainsley of Camden. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Capehart's Baptist Church by Pastor Jake Dunlow. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor, with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handling arrangements.
