John R. Lane

John Roger Lane, Jr., 45, of 302 Hwy. 158 East Business, Gatesville, NC, died Saturday, June 9, 2012 in Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. John was born in Suffolk, VA and was the son of J. Roger, Sr. and Rita Howell Lane of Gates. A farmer, he had served as President of the NC Peanut Growers Assn. and was a member of the Gates County FSA Board. A member and deacon of Middle Swamp Baptist Church, he also had served as vice-president of the Eason's Crossroads Ballpark and was a member of the Gatesville Hunt Club. In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife of 19 years, Kellie Harrell Lane, and their children, Sydney Anne Lane and John R. "Jay" Lane, III; and two brothers, Bundy Lane and wife Marinda of Gates and Curk Lane and wife Lisa of Clayton. Also surviving are Kellie's parents, Thomas and Connie Harrell of Suffolk, and her sister, Ann Harrell and husband Webster of Gatesville. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in Middle Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Burt Pearce and the Rev. Billy Presley, with Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence. John's cousins and close friends are establishing an educational fund for his children, and those who wish to contribute may make checks to Children of John R.
