Elise Ward Alexander Walker

Elsie Ward Alexander Walker, 91, of 2362 Delia Drive, Elizabeth City, NC, and formerly of Columbia, died Monday, June 18, 2012 in Winslow Memorial Home, Elizabeth City. Mrs. Walker was born in Tyrrell County and was the daughter of the late John Lewis and Cordeliah Sawyer Ward. A retired spooler from Edenton Cotton Mill where she worked for over 25 years, she was a member of Albemarle Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by both her husbands, Alton Alexander and James B. Walker; a son, Joseph Franklin Alexander; a sister, Emma Ward Wright; two brothers, John Robert Ward and Edward Lewis Ward; and two grandchildren. Surviving are two daughters, Joan Alexander Pickell and husband Carl of Elizabeth City and Bertha Alexander Martin of Winston-Salem; two step-daughters, Pamela Walker Cobb and husband Richard of Elizabeth City and Claresse Walker Alford and husband Marvin of Newnan, GA; a sister, Julia Ward Ainsley of Belhaven; a brother, Harvey N. "Jack" Ward and wife Sharon of Elizabeth City; nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by Pastor Leon Williams. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home and other times at the home on Delia Drive.
