Julian Shelton Umphlett

Julian Shelton "Buddy" Umphlett, 51, of W. Main Street Extd., Elizabeth City, NC, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Heritage Care. Buddy was born in Pasquotank County and was the son of Vilma Bright Umphlett of Elizabeth City and the late Shelton Umphlett. Passionate about driving a wrecker service truck, he worked most of his career with Robert Sawyer's Service Station. In addition to his mother he is survived by his daughter, Kristin Umphlett of Elizabeth City; his brother, Lloyd "Troy" Smithwick and wife Sara of Windsor, NC; sisters, Darlene McLawhorn and husband Bobby, Wanda Morse and husband Herk, and Kathy Eason and husband James, all of Elizabeth City; several nieces and nephews and many caring friends. A memorial service will be held at a later time and will be announced by Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to any chapter of the American Cancer Society.
