Clyde Wilton Chalk, 82, of 610 Morris Ford Road, Colerain, NC, died Saturday, July 14, 2012 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville. Mr. Chalk was born in Perquimans County and was the son of the late Elmer Carlyle and Annie Elnora Smith Chalk. Employed for many years as an insurance agent, he later retired as the owner and operator of Shore Drive Market in Norfolk, VA. A veteran of the US Army where he had served as a paratrooper, he enjoyed memberships in Tidewater Gospel Assembly in Norfolk, the Country Music Association, and singing with the group, "Bonnie and Clyde and the Majestics". In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd C. and Clifton T. Chalk, and two sisters, E. Earline Birge and Patricia A. Halsey. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Addie Lois Bright Chalk; a son, Howard C. Chalk of Norfolk; five daughters, Linda J. Webb of Roanoke, VA, Paula M. Tarter and husband Randy of Bloomington, IN, Teresa A. McCabe and husband Walter, Janet L. Birsch and husband Lanny, and Debbie "Do" Bouchard, all of Norfolk; a brother, James R. Chalk of Norfolk; and "Pepaw's lil darlings", his 14 grandchildren, Chris, Allen, Robbin, LeighAnn, Jennifer, Jason, Janet, Timothy, Nick, Erin, Ryan, Lanny, Jill and Carl; and 10 great-grandchildren, Christian, Ian, Caleb, Michaela, Justus, Kirsten, Addie Leigh, Lucas, Deven and Noah. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. Burial with military honors will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
