Joan Smallwood Johnson, 75, of 113 Pocahontas Trail, Edenton, NC, died Saturday, July 14, 2012 in her home. Mrs. Johnson was born in McDowell County, WVA, and was the daughter of the late John A. and Dosha Emiline Holland Smallwood. A retired secretary, working at the Pentagon for the Dept. of Defense, she was a member of the Church of The Redeemer in Camden. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Douglas A. Johnson, Sr., (USN Ret.), a daughter, Lynnette C. Evans and husband Rodney of Edenton; a son, Douglas A. Johnson, Jr. and wife Kara of Burke, VA; four grandchildren, Johnathan, Brandon, Brianna, and Austin; and a great-grandson, Ethan. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in The Church of The Redeemer, 207 Highway 343 South, Camden. Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery with date and time to be announced. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is assisting the family with arrangements. The family asks that flowers be omitted and contributions be made to The Church of The Redeemer, which has been so loyal and steadfast during her illness.
