Forrest David White, Sr.

Forrest David White, Sr., 91, formerly of Corapeake, NC and more recently of his daughter's home at 225 Timberlane Drive, Rocky Mount, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Forrest was born in Gates County on January 4, 1921, the son of the late Robert Peyton "Pate" and Teresa Taylor White. A kind soul, he was always helping others in the community. He loved the Lord, his church, and his family. A retired farmer and logger, Forrest had served on the Gates County ASC Committee for over 18 years. He was a member, deacon, and teacher of the Adult Men's Sunday School Class at Eureka Baptist Church. Forrest served proudly for 2 years as an Army sergeant operating tug boats in the Philippines during World War II. He was preceded in death by his son, David White (Beverly); son-in-law, Bill Howell; sister, Elizabeth Stuber and her husband Robelyn; and sister-in-law Martha White; the late in-laws, C.P. Brinkley (Hyla), Mary Perry (Bill) and Nell Ward. Forrest was survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Joyce Hope Brinkley White; his daughter, Mabel Howell of Rocky Mount; two brothers, Gerald F. White (Sara) of Elizabeth City and Marvin P. White of Lake Wales, Fl; five grandsons Mack (Debbie), Jason, Brandon, and Steven Howell and Jeffrey White; and a great-grandson, Kye White; special brothers-in-law John Brinkley (Anita) and Fred Ward; and twenty nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 am in Eureka Baptist Church, Corapeake, NC by the Revs. Mickey Willard and Cameron Currin. Burial will follow with military honors in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family in the social hall following the graveside service on Saturday, and all other times at the Rocky Mount residence. Memorial contributions may be made to Eureka Baptist Church, PO Box 68, Corapeake, NC 27926. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Jessica Brys-Wilson and the staff of Community Home Care and Hospice for the care given to Mr. White in his final months.
