Melvin Ray Copeland, Sr., 67, of 343 Mexico Road, Edenton, NC, died Saturday, July 28, 2012 in Vidant Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor, NC. Mr. Copeland was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late Joseph and Pencie Copeland. A retired driver with B.W. Taylor Logging, and later Billy Harrell Logging, he was a former member of both the Edenton Jaycees and the Edenton Fire Dept. Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Nancy Hawkins Copeland; two daughters, Rita Wilkins and husband Lindsay of Merry Hill and Angela C. Jones and husband Mike of Edenton; three sons, Jerry Lee and wife Margaret of Merry Hill, Ray Copeland and wife Tina of Hertford, and Travis Copeland and wife Amber of Ruther Glen, VA; one brother, Richard Copeland of Tyner; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held Monday at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by Pastor Carroll Bunch. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence.
