Bobby Ray Owens, 65, of 907 Chambers Ferry Road, Edenton, NC, died Sunday, August 5, 2012 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, NC. Mr. Owens was born in Gates County and was the son of the late Bennie and Ethel King Owens. Retired from Albemarle Boats, he was a member of First Christian Church in the mill village section of Edenton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Jean Brickhouse, and a brother, B.G. Owens. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Annie Laura "Laurie" Whiteman Owens; a daughter, Jennifer Owens Bass and husband Billy; a son, Jason Ray Owens and wife Bobby Jo; and five grandchildren, Tyler Lane Owens, Ellison Morgan Owens, Lauren Ashley Bass, Natalie Greyson Bass, and Kinnan Riley Bass, all of Edenton. Also surviving are six sisters, Virginia Lane, Mary Bivens, Ruth Lane, and Joyce Evans, all of Edenton, Frances Robertson of The Villages, FL, and Carolyn Howell of Kill Devil Hills; and a brother, Billy Owens of Hertford. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by the Rev. Bob Young. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at the residence.
