Grace Dobson Sawyer

Grace Spencer Dobson Sawyer, 100, of 1341 Paradise Road, Edenton, NC, died Saturday, August 11, 2012 in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Sawyer was born in Roseboro, NC and was the last surviving of 10 children born to the late Thomas and Irene Davidson Spencer. The oldest member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, she in years past had worked as a clerk with the old Naval base in Edenton, as a bookkeeper with Albemarle Ford, and later as a tour guide for Historic Edenton. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by both her husbands, John Thomas Dobson, Sr. and Charles Delmas Sawyer. Surviving are three daughters, Jean McKinley of Norfolk, VA, Leigh Lubasz of Edenton, and Grace Schilling and husband Lawrence of Denver, NC; a son, John T. Dobson, Jr. and wife Grace of Edenton; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Private services are planned and will be officiated by The Rev. Thomas Rickenbaker.
