William Adrian Ward, Sr.

William Adrian "Bill" Ward, Sr., 91, of 292 US Hwy 158 W., Gatesville, NC, died Friday, August 10, 2012 in his home. Mr. Ward was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late Randolph Stuart and Beatrice Parks Ward. A retired lieutenant with the Gates County Prison Department after 16 years of employment, he later owned and operated a trucking company. He was a member of Ballard's Bridge Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva White Ward; a daughter, Eva Ward Williams; a son, Shelton Gene Ward; and a brother, Lehman Ward. Surviving are his two sons, William A. "Billy" Ward, Jr. and wife Emily of Eure and Randolph S. "Randy" Ward and wife Lori of Gates; a son-in-law, Larry Williams of Elizabeth City; a sister, Faye Ward Lane of Tyner; a niece, Flora Jane Wilcox of Tyner; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in Ballard's Bridge Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Parr. A private burial will follow in Hobbsville Baptist Church Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, in charge of arrangements. Friends may join the family at the home of his son, Randy Ward, 48 Middle Swamp Road, Gates. Memorial contributions may be made to one's favorite charity.
