Hazel Vanhorn Owens, 87, of 408 Pine View Drive, Edenton, died Sunday, August 19, 2012 in her home. Mrs. Owens was born in Washington County and was the daughter of the late Felton and Inez Hassell Vanhorn. Retired from Edenton Cotton Mill, she attended both Edenton Church of God and Edenton Bible Holiness Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny L. Owens, Sr. Surviving are five daughters, Virginia Bembridge and husband William, Sue Ashley and husband Gerald, Kathy Rea and husband Carl, Linda Alligood and husband Joe, and Annette Owens, all of Edenton; three sons, Johnny L. Owens, Jr. and wife Angie of Merry Hill, Leroy Owens and wife Melinda, and Chester Owens, all of Edenton; a sister, Kathleen Snell of Roper; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by the Revs. Carroll Bunch and Donald Sawyer. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at her home.
