Leona Jordan Winslow

Leona Jordan Winslow, 88, of 1225 Sandy Cross Road, Belvidere, NC, passed away Friday, August 24, 2012 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Mrs. Winslow was born in Chowan County and was the daughter of the late Eley and Verna Lane Jordan. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she and her husband were the former owners and operators of Nicanor Country Store, where she was noted for her wit, her ability to remember, and her love for her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Neola Jordan Futrell, and by brothers Maurice and Horace Jordan. Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Percy L. Winslow, Sr.; her son, Percy "Lot" Winslow, Jr. and wife Teresa; a sister, Carrie Jordan; a brother, Larry Jordan and wife Carolyn; three grandsons, Todd Winslow, Lance Winslow and wife Cindy, and Terence Winslow and wife Kimberly; and six great-grandchildren, Ethan, Tyler, Bryce, Colby, Kayla and Reilly. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, by the Rev. Michael Brinkley. Burial will follow in Up River Cemetery. Friends may join the family Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at Lot and Teresa's home, 1069 Sandy Cross Road, Belvidere.
