Hazel Van Sant Harris

Hazel Van Sant Harris, 88, of 209 Woodville Road, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2012 in her home. Mrs. Harris was born in Atlantic City, NJ and was the daughter of the late Wilbur Tilton and Marie Hilgert Van Sant. A homemaker, she was a Catholic by faith and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Edison "Speck" Harris, and a sister, Lois Van Sant Speight. Surviving are her daughter, Pattie Harris Whitehurst and husband Tildon, Jr. of Hertford; a son, David Brewin and wife Jeanette Cabanis-Brewin of Cullowhee; eight grandchildren, Laura, Alice, Hazel, Margaret, Nickie, Amy, Millicent and Patrick; 12 great-grandchildren; and her faithful canine companion, Snappy. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Cedarwood Cemetery by the Rev. Gene Boyce with Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at the home of her daughter, Pattie Harris, 213 Woodville Road, Hertford.
