Sherwood Ray Coltrain, Sr., 73, of 119 Morris Circle, Edenton, NC, died Saturday, September 8, 2012 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, NC. Mr. Coltrain was born in Martin County and was the retired owner/operator of Coltrain Tile Co. A veteran, he had served in the US Navy and later, the Naval Reserves for a total of nine years. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Lois Chappell Coltrain; two daughters, Michele Jones and husband Wilson of Hertford and Shirley Tice of Graham; two sons, Sherwood Ray Coltrain, Jr. and wife Valerie of Hertford and Billy Hollowell and wife Tina of Montrose, CA; two sisters, Carol Modlin of Chocowinity and Jo Ann Coltrain of Elizabeth City; eight grandchildren, Megan Jones, Lauren Kephart, Wesley Kephart, Rachel Farish, Nicholas Coltrain, Arriana Beattie, Savannah Hall, and Tawnie Martin; and four great-grandchildren, Brendan Coltrain, Aurora Farish, Sarah Cochran, and Lalla Rose Martin. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by the Rev. Frank Halsey, Jr. Burial with military honors will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at the residence.
