Virginia Goodwin Wells, 94, of 904 W. Queen Street, Edenton, NC, died Saturday, September 8, 2012 in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Edenton. Mrs. Wells was born in Chowan County and was the daughter of the late William Joseph and Jennie Parker Goodwin. A graduate of Edenton High School, she received training in business courses and worked for a time as the secretary to John A. Holmes, Superintendent of Schools for Chowan County. She continued in that position until becoming a mother and full-time homemaker. Raised in the membership of Yeopim Baptist Church, she later became a longtime and faithful member of Edenton Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William H. "Bill" Wells, Sr., her sister, Helen Goodwin Pruden, and by her brothers, Willie P. "Bill" Goodwin and Rupert Goodwin. Surviving are her daughter, Virginia Ann Brown of Springfield, VA; her son, William Henry Wells, Jr. and wife Robin of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Kenneth E. Brown and wife Kristen, Adam Y. Wells and wife Loren, Rachel E. Wells, and Taylor I. Wells; and two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Abigail Brown. A graveside service will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery by the Rev. David Brooks. Friends are invited to join the family in the social hall of Edenton Baptist Church immediately following the service, or all other times at the residence.
