Annie Margaret Felton Rountree, 102, of NC 37 North, Gates, NC, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 in Down East Health & Rehabilitation in Gatesville. Mrs. Rountree was born in Gates County and was the daughter of the late Walter Jethro and Katherine Harrell Felton. A graduate of East Carolina Teacher's College, now East Carolina University, she was a retired teacher, having taught in the Gates County, Suffolk, VA, and Chowan County school systems. A member of Suffolk Christian Church, she also enjoyed membership in the Gates County Historical Society, the Gatesville Senior Citizens, the Gates County Home Extension Clubs, the Betsy Dowdy Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the George Durant Chapter of the 17th Century Colonial Dames. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Walter Rountree, a sister, Katherine M. Felton Brinkley, and brothers, Jethro Jerome Felton, Walter Shepard Felton, Thomas A. Felton, and William Hayes Felton. Surviving are her daughter, Annie Margaret Rountree of Gates; nieces, Margaret Felton Sadler, Myrtle Felton Etheridge, and Carolyn Rountree Eaton; nephews, J. Jerome Felton, Jr., William H. Felton, Jr. Walter S. Felton, Jr., and James B. Felton; and several other extended family members. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in Eure Christian Church by the Revs. Michael Brinkley, Michael D. Halley, Tracy Clayton, Wayne Gardner, and Billy Presley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Saturday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at the home of Etta and Sherwood Eason, 227 NC 37 South, Gatesville.
