Doris Layden Monds, 82, of 934 Center Hill Highway, Tyner, NC, died Thursday, September 20, 2012 in her home. Mrs. Monds was born in Perquimans County and was the daughter of the late Archie Elfred and Beatrice Copeland Layden. A member of Center Hill Baptist Church, she with her husband were the retired owners and operators of L.C. Monds Truck Line. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Oliver and Carlton Layden, and on Feb. 10th of this year, by her husband of nearly 65 years, Louis Clark Monds. Surviving are two daughters, Linda Hollowell and husband Roy of Kill Devil Hills and Louette Winslow and husband Eddie of Tyner; a son, Dennis Monds of Lake Gaston, NC; five sisters, Adelaide Hendrix of Tyner, Helen Riddick of Portsmouth, VA, Clemma Bunch and husband Roy of Belvidere, Sylvia Miller of Hertford, and Marlene Bass and husband Jesse of Hobbsville; a sister-in-law, Joyce Layden of Suffolk, VA; three grandchildren, Kevin Hollowell and wife Stacy, Reggie Winslow, and Emily Monds; and two great-grandchildren, Sydney and Shelby Hollowell. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by the Rev. Don English. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the residence, or in the funeral home immediately following the graveside rites on Sunday.
