William Leslie Umphlett

William Leslie Umphlett, 68, of 181 US Hwy 13 South, Eure, NC, died, Sunday, September 23, 2012 in Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. Mr. Umphlett was born in Gates County and was the son of the late James Elliott and Ruth Spivey Umphlett. The retired owner and operator of the former Corner High Store, he was an avid racing fan. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant brother. Surviving are his two daughters, Teresa U. Whitmore and husband Scott of Carrollton, VA and Suzette U. Barden of Franklin, VA; a son, William Lee Umphlett of Zuni, VA; a brother, Jimmy Umphlett of Gates; three grandchildren, Wes, Amy and Dylan; and two great-grandchildren, Brianna and Jonathon. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, by the Rev. Cody Brinkley. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to any chapter of the American Cancer Society.
