Douglas Eugene Pittman, Sr., 86, of 1278 Beech Springs Road, Tyner, NC, died Tuesday, October 9, 2012 in his home. Mr. Pittman was born in South Carolina and was the son of the late Clyde and Sadie Nash Pittman. A retired maintenance foreman from Emporia Foundry, he was a member of Hunter's Fork Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Lee Samarge Pittman, and three brothers, Elmer, Joe, and Leroy Pittman. Surviving are two daughters, Garnet Louise Raby of Tyner and Carolyn Sue Parks of Winston-Salem; two sons, Douglas Eugene Pittman, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV and Robert Lee Pittman of Boulder, CO; a sister, Frances Pullig of Virginia Beach, VA; eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 17th in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Chapel, Chesapeake, VA.
