Josephine Ward Copeland

Josephine Ward Copeland, 89, of 142 Sign Pine Road, Tyner, NC, died Tuesday, October 16, 2012 in Winslow Memorial Home, Elizabeth City. Mrs. Copeland was born in Perquimans County and was the daughter of the late Robert Felton and Josephine Goodwin Ward. A retired seamstress, she had worked with Don Juan Mfg. in Hertford and later with 17 South Garment Factory in Elizabeth City. She was a member of Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Hilda McCravey and Annie Ruth Mansfield, and by brothers J.G. and Ivey Ward. Surviving are her husband of 71 years, John Ervin Copeland; three daughters, Sandra C. Gregory and husband Daniel of Hertford, Jo Ella C. Chappell and husband Ray of Chesapeake, VA, and Ervina C. Bunch and husband Eddie of Gatesville; a brother, Robert Ward of Newport News, VA; seven grandchildren, Danelle Ivey and husband Wade, Dan Gregory and wife Dawn, Tiffany Chappell, Stephanie Balsamo and husband Joey, and Courtney, Meredith, and Hillary Bunch; five great-grandchildren, Al and Samantha Ivey, and Maitlyn, Madisyn, and Eli Gregory; and another great-grandchild due to be born in December, Hope Balsamo. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Gene Asbill and the Rev. Chuck Davis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and other times at the residence.
