Minnie Elliott "Marie" Ayscue-Myers, 77, of 215 Market Street, Hertford, NC, left this temporary home for a permanent dwelling place, on Friday, October 26, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. Marie followed the Heavenly path of her parents, John David "Bill" Elliott and Myrtle Boyce Elliott Spruill. She was also preceded in death by her previous Christian husband, Alton Ray Ayscue in February of 2000, and by an infant daughter, Angela Karen Ayscue in May of 1969. A 1953 graduate of Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, VA, she attended Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. While living in the Tidewater area, she served as vice-president of the Indian River PTA and was the Executive Director of Bethel Christian Schools in Chesapeake from 1969 through 1979. After moving to Hertford, she and her late husband were the co-founders of Stepping Stones of the Albemarle, Inc. and Beacon Academy, where she served as president from 1983 through 2006. She was a member of the Advisory Committee of The College of The Albemarle, the Small Business Bureau in Elizabeth City, the Perquimans County Chamber of Commerce where she had served as treasurer for two years, and was on the Perquimans Goals 2000 Project Subcommittee in 1992-93. A faithful member of Fountain of Life Ministries in Elizabeth City, she served as Missionary Associate with General Council of the Assemblies of God, Springfield, MO, 2001-02, and taught in many churches in Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina, in both children through adult ministries. Surviving are her beloved husband, Albert K. Myers, Sr., a son, Kevin Wayne Ayscue and Peggy Thorne of Chesapeake; a daughter, Kathy Lynn Wolf and husband David of Pittsburgh, PA; a step-daughter, Susan Wyatt and husband Tony of Hertford; a brother, Billy G. Elliott and wife Alice of Moyock; and three sisters, Faye Myers and husband Elvin T., Louise Ayscue and husband John, and Deborah Owens and husband Martin, all of Hertford. Known as "Ree Ree" by her three wonderful grandchildren, Andrew Kyle and Devin Baird Ayscue of Raleigh and Erin Michelle Wolf of Pittsburgh, she is also survived by step-grandchildren, Aaron, Corrine, and Holly Blake; and six step-great-grandchildren, Kylie, twins Hunter and Mason Blake, Daydon Blake, Landon Brinkley, and Austin Blake; and a very special aunt, Marie Hobbs of Hertford. A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Fountain of Life Ministries by Pastors Hans Hess and Preston Pitchford. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Rosewood Memorial Park, 601 Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach. Friends may join the family Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and other times at the residence.
