Lee Roy Holmes, 88, of Rudd Road, and formerly of Edenton, NC and Ventura, CA, died Saturday, October 27, 2012 in the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Mr. Holmes was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late Nelson and Mamie Alexander Holmes. A retired land surveyor, he was a veteran of World War II and had served in the Army Air Force. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Lena White and Fannie Twiddy, by his brother, Jasper Holmes, and by his son-in-law, Tom Enger. Surviving are his daughter, Sharon Enger of Laurel, DE; his son, Roy Holmes and wife Sherry of Townsend; his long-time companion, Doris N. Morgan of Ventura; six grandchildren, Tom Enger, II, Mary Enger, Deanna Enger, Jacob Lee Enger, Blake Scott Holmes, and Danielle Hurley; eight great-grandchildren; and other extended family members and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 2, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton by the Rev. Thomas Biggs. Burial with military honors will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
