Charles Bernard Jones, 79, of 711 S. Edenton Road Street, Hertford, NC, died suddenly Friday, November 9, 2012 in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City. Mr. Jones was born in Guilford County and was the son of the late Gaither McKinley and Virginia Ellington Jones. A graduate of Elon College, he received his Masters in Music from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and taught band and orchestra in the NC Public School System before retiring. A second career he enjoyed with his wife was owning and operating Travel Agents International in Burlington. After moving to Hertford eight years ago, he taught cello and bass lessons, and performed frequently with The Albemarle Chamber Players, a group he co-founded with his wife. A talented composer and arranger, music was his life, and he will be sorely missed by many. A faithful member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Edenton, he was his company's clerk while serving in the North Carolina National Guard. Surviving are his wife of nearly 35 years, Nancy Fritz Jones; two daughters, Lisa Teague and her son, Evan Charles Teague of Indianapolis, IN, and Lou Ann Goodnight, her husband Jim, and their children, Mary Brandon, James Seth, and Anna Grace Goodnight. A memorial mass will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anne Catholic Church by the Rev. William L. Pitts. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
