Linda Evelina Baucom Barnes

Linda Evelina Baucom Barnes, 73, of 496 Acorn Hill Road, Sunbury, NC, died Sunday, November 11, 2012 in her home. Mrs. Barnes was born in Gastonia, NC, and was raised in Richmond, VA by her parents, the late Henry Luther and Bertha Estes Baucom. A retired pharmacy assistant, she was a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church, the Gates County Historical Society, and the Republican National Committee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Burruss and by a brother, David Baucom. Surviving are her husband, Gene Autry Barnes; a daughter, Cindy Barnes Wood and husband John of Corapeake; a son, Gene A. Barnes, II and wife Emily of Copperas Cove, TX; a sister, Susie Sigman of Amelia, VA; and three grandchildren, Jenna Wood Grant and husband Jamey, Daniel Wood, and Morgan Barnes. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA, by the Rev. Tim Dannelly. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at the home of her daughter, 440 Daniels Road, Corapeake.
